question 4

Question 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback was vital to use after creating the drafts of our film trailer, magazine and poster. This helped us in making improvements throughout all our work to try and get the best mark possible. By getting feedback I can adjust my work and change parts which are disliked by the audience. The feedback was especially helpful from my class members as they knew what conventions we had to meet so they could help very well.
For our first draft of the trailer our class gave us lots of helpful feedback of what to change and what worked well to the conventions.

Once we had this feedback we edited the specific bits which they pointed out and changed things which they believed would attract the audience better.
Our final trailer was then posted on you tube so it can be viewed by all future students and the rest of public.

I also received feedback for my magazine cover.

To record the variety of feedback I have received I have recorded it through a program called wordle.

To view wordle copy and paste into address bar online.

Similar to my magazine cover feedback I have used wordle.

By having both positive and negative feedback in the same place is has really helped me improve all my work.

Question 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

In the production of my poster, magazine cover and teaser trailer me and my partner made separate pieces of ancillary texts. However, we decided it would be good to keep the a similar style. We thought this be a good idea as although it was separate work it is important the audience knows it is the same film. By choosing the romantic theme it is very important that this genre was witnessed throughout the work created at a consistent level. By analysing posters and magazine covers it was clear that they were kept very simplistic but yet exceedingly eye catching. Also they clearly showed the genre of the film they are showing. We decided that it is vital to do this in the creation of our work.
n the creation of our magazine covers and posters we both used different photographs. However, it is clear that they were made by the same production team. In my poster and magazine cover I went for two completely different ideas. However ‘remember’ is constantly similar across all my work enabling the audience to recall past information they may have gathered by looking at other ancillary texts. For my magazine cover similar clothes were worn to the trailer. This is to make the audience understand the styles of our characters and maybe be able to link their lives with the characters. This boosts the ancillary effects throughout all the work created.
The style of romance we tried to portray by using certain colours we believe successfully created the romantic vibe we set out to get. The colours typically used throughout our work were white and blue. These colours are seen as ‘romantic colours’. The use of the colour white often is seen to represent peace. So this would benefit us in the creation of our trailer.
Finally in the production of our ancillary texts and main production, we decided to create a company production name 'Drone productions' this is included in both the main productions and ancillary texts enabling the readers to recognise the production label, they may remember the logo or production name for future reference, as our target audience members are seen to be relatively interested in new and upcoming ideas, leading it to be seen as 'fashion', therefore heightening the effectiveness of both our main product and ancillary texts.

Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Todorov Narrative Theory

When making our trailer we tried to use Todorov narrative theory. This meaning that we must show a state of equilibrium, then the disruption this state followed by a new equilibrium. However it is important to keep the audience guessing we won’t show the new equilibrium to a certain extent that the audience know what is going to happen towards the end of the film.

Brief Storyline

Here is brief outline of how we will try and make our trailer pan out to be. Naturally due to different circumstances it will not come out exact as it is on paper as new ideas shall arise as we continue to shoot the scenes for the teaser trailer.

·         Opening shot shows how they first meet in a cafe. She works in there and he goes in to buy a coffee and they look into each other’s eyes and immediately fall in love.
·         Cuts showing them two together, walking through woods. Seen in a shopping area, having a coffee in the winter.
·         He tells her how he feels and finds out she feels the same way.
·         Cut to him getting his grades AAB and then to his parents saying he has to go to university. They have an argument begin to shout and throw stuff around. He is disappointed that he is going university but parents are overwhelmed.
·         Cuts to the couple going for a walk and he tells her along the way, they agree to stay together and say not to worry about it yet. It rains so they both run to the park and hide under the slide. They look at each other and kiss.
·         He says he will come and visit but never does, 3-4 months later and he’s back for Christmas.
·         He goes to see her but she is with someone else. The couple meet and he explains that he           couldn’t get away as he had so much work to do and that he wanted too and she says she weren’t waiting around forever. He explains how he tried to contact her every day.
·         He leaves angry and punches the walls and objects on his departure.
·         She begins to cry, after sitting and crying runs out of the house.
·         Then loads of cuts showing them crying together and not together, showing various different emotions leaving the audience in suspense.

Voice Over

As part of our film trailer we decided that we wanted to use a voice over to act as an additional voice so that it wasn’t the actors talking the whole time. To do this we used a recording device. We then had to find the right sort of voice for our trailer. The first step was deciding whether it should be male or female and after much discussion a female voice was chosen. We needed the voice to be sad as this is what we thought would best suit our trailer. We then put into imovie and had to edit bits which did not sound professional enough to be used in the trailer. The script read:

It's like you're screaming but no one can hear.

You almost feel ashamed that someone could be that important, that without them,

You feel like nothing can save you.

No one will ever understand how much it hurts.

You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you.

And when it's over and it's gone, you almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back so you can have the good.

However we did not want the whole script to be read at one point of the trailer as it is too long so we broke it up as above and separated it throughout the trailer where we thought it work well with what the scene is showing.
One of our main actors in our film was under the age of 18 so we felt it only appropriate that we asked her parents permission that they know what the recording is for coursework purposes. We did this in a letter to her parents and in this letter we included a contract which is proof that they allowed their child to be recorded and if they did not wash for their daughter to be in the film then they simply did not have to reply. Here is a version of the letter we sent them.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear ……..

I am writing to ask for your permission to use your daughter as one of the main actors in our trailer for our media coursework. Below is a contract which is proof that you willingly accepted your daughter to be recorded for a school coursework purpose.

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I                           give permission for the recording of my daughter to be allowed for school coursework only. I know that this is proof I have been asked permission and understand it is for a school coursework purpose/.
